When President Donald Trump properly called the Wuhan coronavirus, the “Chinese virus” because it originated in China and China was trying to attack us, claiming that it originated with us, many on the left and in media tried to paint that as somehow inappropriate or racist.
But such viruses have commonly been referred to by their place of origin. Indeed, media initially called it Chinese virus or Wuhan virus before a concerted campaign on the part of China, with the help of WHO, not to call it that. Even China and Chinese media initially called it “Wuhan virus.”
But then we’re told that we shouldn’t be calling it either of those names because somehow that’s racist, when really all it was was placing proper blame on Chinese communist government and we should not stop doing that as there needs to be a reckoning.
But now you have to check out Gov. Andrew Cuomo during his briefing today. He repeatedly called the virus the “European virus.”
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is now describing the coronavirus pandemic that originated in Wuhan, China as a “European virus.”
He said this in today’s presser multiple times.

What is he trying to sell us with that? This may stem off a New York Times article saying that a lot of the cases they saw in New York came from Europe. Yes, stopped off in Europe before they hit our shores, but, of course, deep into the the article, it said that the strains originated in China. So this smacks of desperate repackaging against to deflect blame away from China. This is complete rewriting of history, especially at a time when we need to be holding them accountable. Why are Democrats so desperate to give China a pass? This is truly unconscionable.
But then why is calling it “European virus” acceptable if before calling it Chinese virus or Wuhan virus was not? Why is Cuomo being given a pass on his obvious racism?
Finally, he has absolutely the worst response in the country to the virus, with deaths directly attributable to his sending positive patients and staff into nursing homes. It’s also New Yorkers who seeded the virus at various places across the country. So maybe by Cuomo standards, we should start calling it the “Wuhan-New York” virus.
He’s also saying “no one expected it?” Is he joking? New York had its first case on March 1. President Donald Trump was already dealing with it in January, declaring a public health emergency, forming a task force, cutting travel with China. If Cuomo “didn’t expect it,” it’s because he was ignoring all the warnings. And indeed, he was in large measure, not taking any substantial actions until the middle of March.
FYI CNN and Fredo are going to pick this standard up and run with it as well.
